SAVE's 2nd Annual Stroll for Strays Dog Walk and Pet Fair will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Mercer County Park's West Picnic Area.



This family friendly event will feature a walk (with or without a dog), vendors, non-profit groups, raffles and more! The shelter's goal is to raise $50,000 for shelter programs and services. We can't do this without your help. SAVE welcomes community participation from families, individuals, corporations, schools, churches and local businesses.

Register to Walk at Stroll for Strays


Registration is open to all animal friendly individuals, families or teams! You may register to walk with or without a dog. There will be all types of vendors to visit, demonstrations to watch, raffles to purchase and wonderful, like-minded people to meet. Registration fees:



  • Registration - $20.00/person
  • If you collect more than $40 in pledges, registration is FREE!

You may download our Pledge Form [181 KB PDF] to keep track of your donations. THINK BIG! We're asking for individual walkers to raise a mimimum of $40, but why stop there? Set your goals high, supersize it and try to raise $100; the higher you get, the more animals you will help.

Frequently Asked Questions


Should I start a team or register as an individual?

If you have a friend or family member joining you, please start a team. If you are attending alone, register as an individual.



Someone would like to join my team but may not be able to attend the event. Can they still joing my team?

Yes, they can still support you by joining your team and fundraising as a team member even if they are unable to attend.



Can I start a team with only two people?

There is no minimum size for a team. The maximum is 10 people.



What is the deadline to register or join a team?

You may register anytime, including the day of the event. However, early registration is encouraged.



Day of the Event


Are strollers allowed at the event?

Yes! Event wagons for the little ones are welcome.



Are bikes, rolllerblades, scooters or skateboards allowed at the event?

No, these items are not permitted for the safety of all attendees.



Can I arrive late?

Yes. Check-in will be open from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Please go directly to the registration table when you arrive.



What if it is raining on the day of the walk?

The event will take place RAIN OR SHINE. Only in the event of extreme weather conditions will the event be cancelled.



What is the walk route like?

The walk will occur along the bike path, beginning at the west picnic area following the path marked with signs, circling back to the west picnic area. Remember it is not about the distance you walk, but the impact you will have on the lives of hundreds of animals in our area.



Do I have to walk a dog?

No. This walk is for all who wish to help SAVE lives, even our cat enthusiasts. (For safety reasons, no cats will be permitted at the event) However, if you wish to bring a dog there are some rules to follow. Your dog must:

  • Be at least 6 months old and younger than 10 years old.
  • Have a current license or proof of rabies vaccination.
  • Have current vaccinations.
  • Be on a leash for the duration of the event. (no retractable leashes or leashes longer than 6 feet).
  • NOT be aggressive to people or other dogs (no history of biting).
  • NOT be a female in heat.



Please remember:

  • One dog per walker.
  • Be courteous, responsible and scoop up after your pet. Poop bags will be provided to every participant with a dog.
  • Use good judgement regarding the temperament of your pet so the event will be enjoyable for everyone.
  • Walk the course with your dog only if both of you are conditioned for it.



I am part of a team. Where do I check in?

It is best if you team picks a time and location to meet. The team captain can then check in the entire team at the regsitration table.



Can I register the day of the event?

Yes, you may register on the day of the event. However, if you pre-register you will be able to begin the walk more quickly. Registering before September 8th is only $15; registering the day of the event is $20.

Do I have to mail my donations? Can I bring them with me to the event?

You may bring your donation to the event however, it is preferred that you mail them to the shelter as soon as possible.



I don't want to walk, but can I or my family attend the event to join the festivities and visit the vendors?

Yes. For those who do not want to participate in the walk, SAVE is asking for a $5 donation to attend. ($10 per family)



What about t-shirts for the event?

There will be t-shirts for sale during the event. All registrants with pledges of $50 or more will receive a free t-shirt.
